Nearly doubling the square footage of the long-standing St. Luke’s School, our team completed a two-story, steel frame overbuild to accommodate the K-8 school’s growing student population. As with most New York City expansion projects, we had to build up not out, which required carefully considered designs and additional pre-construction planning.
This newly configured educational facility includes nine new classrooms, an expanded 4,500-square-foot multipurpose performance space, and an ADA-compliant elevator and bathrooms.
To avoid compromising the existing building structure, our team built this entire add-on on six steel columns that intersect with but never touch the original formation. We were able to complete the expansion without the school having to displace students or cancel a single instructional day.
